The City of Houston Reuse Warehouse is pleased to be collaborating in this event once again. We accept building material, including compost, topsoil, and other bulk materials, divert it from landfills, and give it to non-profit organizations, schools, and government agencies for free.
We anticipate that the sustainability/resiliency strategies, of several community farm and garden organizations will be augmented by the free acquisition of composted gingerbread and other materials in the next Spring planting season.
For example, all of the composted gingerbread from the 2015 Build-Off was collected and reused by the organization Path from Prison to Power for use in one of their gardens in the greater Houston area, a component of their mission to provide community service employment opportunities to previously incarcerated individuals.
